After April 2010, a new federal law requires Contractors who perform renovation, repairs, and painting jobs in pre-1978 housing and child-occupied facilities to become EPA Lead Certified Renovators. Nu Innovative Products, LLC, a nationally EPA-Accredited Renovation, Repair, and Painting Program (RRP) Training Provider, will provide our instruction. Upon successful completion of this one-day course, students will achieve certification recognized by both the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). This course satisfies EPA’s Renovation, Repair and Painting (RRP) Rule (40 CFR Part 745) and is approved for purposes of certification under Section 402 of TSCA.

Course curriculum consists of eight modules accompanied by hands-on exercises of 11 lead-safe work practice skill sets:

  • Module 1 – Why Should I Be Concerned About Lead Paint?
  • Module 2 – Regulations
  • Module 3 – Pre-renovation Responsibilities
  • Module 4 – Interior/Exterior Containment
  • Module 5 – During the Work
  • Module 6 – Cleaning Activities and Checking Your Work
  • Module 7 – Recordkeeping
  • Module 8 – Training Non-Certified Renovation Workers

Who should consider attending or is considered required to be certified? The RRP Rule affects paid renovators or landlords performing their own renovations disturbing painted surfaces in pre-1978 constructed housing and child occupied facilities, including:

  • General contractors and subcontractors
  • Maintenance workers in multi-family housing
  • Painters and other specialty trades
  • Window replacement
